This obi came from a Hiroshima weaver who still works the traditional way. Each thread is placed by hand, which is why no two hanakikko straps are ever the same. The tight loom-work doesn't just look substantial—it protects the fabric where your strap takes the most abuse.

Past Life

Hanakikko — flower-and-tortoise-shell — is one of the oldest geometric motifs in Japanese weaving. Tortoise shell symbolizes long life; the flowers, beauty within it. This particular obi came to us through an online auction, history unknown. Decades of careful folding, likely worn for something formal, now reborn for something loud.
