Each Obi Guitar Factory strap is made from a unique piece of Japanese kimono obi fabric, so the exact same design will not be made again.
A vintage kimono obi reborn as a one-of-one guitar strap. The sansui motif weaves a mountain-and-water landscape — gnarled trees, golden hills, the quiet of an old painting — across deep earth tones in metallic silk. Hand-finished onto durable nylon backing in our Hiroshima studio. Once it ships, this exact pattern is gone forever.
- Width: ~5cm
- Adjustable, fits most strap pin guitars
- One of one
Sansui — mountain and water — is one of the oldest motifs in Japanese textile and ink painting. It depicts the landscape as more than scenery: mountains for permanence, water for change, trees as witnesses to both. We found this obi at a Japanese vintage market; its full history is unknown to us. What the metallic threadwork tells us is that it was woven for an occasion of weight. Now it crosses different terrain — yours.

Behind the build
The textile gets the attention. The feel is what earns repeat use.
Obi Guitar Factory is not trying to make decorative straps that look interesting for one photo and disappear after that. The strap still needs to sit flat, feel stable, and hold up through real playing.
That balance between visual force and practical comfort is the whole point of the build, and it starts in Hiroshima with one bench and one pair of hands.
