Shima No.01A — Kimono Obi Guitar Strap is a one-of-a-kind guitar strap handmade in Hiroshima, Japan from vertical stripe (shima) woven into Japanese obi textile. It keeps the visual character of the original weave while staying practical for rehearsal, recording, and stage use.
Pattern Story
This piece carries a vertical stripe (shima). Shima means stripe in Japanese textiles. This is one of the oldest and most practical patterns—vertical lines are fast to weave and won't wrinkle your strap during play. We keep that character intact, then translate it into something built to be played rather than only admired.
One of One
Each strap is cut from a different section of the obi, so pattern placement always changes. The mood stays consistent, but no two pieces land in exactly the same way.
Why Players Choose It
Obi Guitar Factory is built in Hiroshima, Japan and stays musician-first. The goal is simple: strong visual identity, dependable hold, and comfort that still feels right deep into a set.
Materials
We choose obi textile for woven texture, visual weight, and the way it reads on stage and on camera. Small variation is part of the value, not a defect.
Care
Treat it like a performance accessory made from decorative textile. Avoid heavy friction, prolonged moisture, direct sun, and harsh cleaners. After use, wipe gently with a dry cloth and store in a cool, dry place.

Shima — stripes — is one of the oldest patterns in Japanese weaving, prized for its iki: understated, effortless chic. This obi came to us through auction. We don't know who tied it, when, or for what. What we do know is that someone chose simplicity, wore it well, and stored it carefully. Now the stripe crosses oceans and stages, carrying whatever comes next.

Behind the build
The textile gets the attention. The feel is what earns repeat use.
Obi Guitar Factory is not trying to make decorative straps that look interesting for one photo and disappear after that. The strap still needs to sit flat, feel stable, and hold up through real playing.
That balance between visual force and practical comfort is the whole point of the build, and it starts in Hiroshima with one bench and one pair of hands.
